Fiji Indian Football Association

Saturday crowds, Sunday headlines. Formed in 1938, the association professionalised inter-district football and made sport a ladder for Indo-Fijian youth.

Founding & key people

Launched 8 October 1938 under A.S. Farebrother, with Suva, Rewa, Ba, Levuka and Lautoka. Later administrators—most famously Sir Moti Tikaram—guided the transition toward a multi-ethnic Fiji FA.

Why it mattered

Gave Indo-Fijian boys and men a public stage, leadership roles, and inter-district networks that fed into civic life.

Flashpoints & campaigns

  • Institutionalising the Inter-District Championship (IDC).
  • Expanding to new districts in the 1940s and 1950s.

Today

Legacy absorbed into the national, multi-ethnic Fiji Football Association.

Legacy
